Nevada officials announced on Tuesday that it has reached an important milestone in its cash assistance program, meeting federal work requirements in all measured areas. This marks the state’s first achievement since stricter rules were implemented.
“Not only is this a tremendous accomplishment for my team, but it also signifies real progress for Nevada families,” DWSS Administrator Robert Thompson said in a statement. “These Nevadans are engaging in activities that will lead their families to financial stability, which is the ultimate goal of TANF and aligns with Governor Lombardo’s 3-year plan to enhance programs supporting transitions to work.”
What is TANF?
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides cash support to families in need. To qualify, participants must meet work-related requirements, such as job searching, training, volunteering, or pursuing vocational education.
Improvements in Two-Parent Household Support
Previously, Nevada met the federal standards for single-parent households, but meeting the requirements for two-parent households had been more difficult. Now, the state has successfully fulfilled all federal guidelines, showing significant progress.

Robert Thompson, the Administrator of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS), emphasized the impact, saying, “These Nevadans are engaging in activities that will lead their families to financial stability.”
